Turmeric in Ayurvedic Medicine

In Ayurvedic medicine, turmeric is thought to have many healthful properties and many in India use it as a readily available antiseptic for cuts and burns. It is currently being investigated for possible benefits in Alzheimer's disease, diabetes, breast cancer treatment options, arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, cancer and liver disorders and also in local STD testing. There are countless benefit of turmeric. In addition to the kitchen spice turmeric may also be used as traditional medicine in the forms of curcumin supplement, curcumin extract for health and beauty. The health benefits of turmeric lie in the active ingredient called curcumin. This powerful compound gives turmeric its therapeutic benefits, its yellow color, and its pungent flavor. More specifically, curcumin harbors antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, stomach-soothing, and liver-and heart-protecting effects.
It is taken in some Asian countries as a dietary supplement, which allegedly helps with stomach problems and other ailments. It is popular as a tea in Okinawa, Japan.

Here are some of the benefits of turmeric, which you can try:
Uses of Turmeric
Diabetes

Turmeric is very effective in treating diabetes.

Take 3 rhizome of turmeric and 1/2 spoon of salt. Boil this two ingredients with 1 liter of water until it is boiled. Then put it through a sieve, and drink the water. Drink it 2 times daily, each 1/2 glass. Repeat until the desired results are achieved

Abdominal pain during menstruation
Boil 1 rhizome of turmeric, ginger and 1 / 2 rhizome kencu. Add salt and sugar to taste and drink in the first day of menstruation.

Turmeric Benefits for Lowering Cholesterol Levels

Among its many healing attributes, turmeric has been shown to lower bad, or LDL cholesterol levels.
With the help of curcumin, an active ingredient in turmeric, the liver is able to rid the body of more LDL cholesterol, effectively enabling the body tolower LDL cholesterol levels
Turmeric can provide a dietary boost forreducing cholesterol
Turmeric has hepatoprotective action

Asians scientists also explored the ability of an alcohol extract to prevent lesions to the liver induced by some potenttoxin, such as carbon tetrachloride, or galactosamine. The preparation provided highly significant hepato-protective activity which led the researchers to more closely investigate possible methods of action. The results of these studies have been abmiguous; much more work is needed before we will completely understand how turmeric works. What has been clearly demonstrated so far is that turmeric possesses anti-hepatic activity on the order possessed by other liver-protective herbs such as milk thistle and licorice.

Turmeric has anti-inflammatory action

The potent anti-inflammatory activity (in essential oil and in curcumin) of turmeric has been substantiated in other research. Like other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents , curcumin appears to act through some sort of adrenal mechanism. Just what that mechanism is remains to be clearly determined. Licorice root acts by increasing the life of circulating steroidal substances. Perhaps turmeric operates in a similar fashion. The anti-inflammatory property compares well with many other known anti-inflammatory agents used in the treatment of arthritis

Treating STD

Turmeric can be effective in fighting a number of STDs including chlamydia and gonorrhea.
Turmeric slows the spread of breast cancer
A recent study involving mice has shown that turmeric slows the spread of breast cancer into lungs and other body parts. Turmeric also enhances the effect of taxol in reducing metastasis of breast cancer.
